What's a good desktop video card to but for basic multimedia functions?

I'm building my own desktop and I am searching on online stores and in Best Buy and stuff and I'm stuck. So I ask, what's a good video card to buy? I need a few things for it to do:

1: It needs to support dual monitors. I have two Dell G2410 24" monitors and I need the video card to be able to support both.

2: I don't need it for gaming capabilities. I need it for just basic computing and simple gaming (ie Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 / Zuma) that also can play movies and TV shows from iTunes.

I posted a question over at computerforums.com and they all gave me answers about gaming video cards that cost like 900 bucks. I don't really mind the price as long as it's not ridiculous.

Work with me people. Cheers!|||try ATi/radeon x1650

REVISIT: IS THIS A GOOD VIDEO CARD?

OK So i asked a question about a video card for miod graphics

but....

now i feel a bit like not taking less than i can get to save a bit so here:

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=…|||Refurbed with a 90 day warranty? Yech, don't touch it!

Don't just check geeks.com, though. Check Newegg and Tigerdirect to find the best deal. If you can, squeeze in a few more bucks and get a Radeon 5750.

Although looking at your earlier question, you don't want to put too much into a video card, so I'd say 5750 is the most you should get. Get another 2GB of RAM (you only have 2GB, not very good for gaming) and a Pentium D, which is a pretty lousy processor by modern standards.

That looks like about the best you're going to do with what you have. However, DO NOT count on rebates when pricing something out. That card is actually $125 and you're rolling the dice on rebates. Get this one instead:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Less money upfront and less money after rebate, too.

In a gaming rig, the video card often costs as much (if not more) than the motherboard. You can get a good motherboard for under $200, but a lot of nicer gaming cards will run you $300+|||That's an excellent price on a GTS 250, although it is a refurb.

The 250 will require a 6-pin PCIe power connector from your power supply. Hopefully you have a 430+W power supply already in there. If not, you'll need to factor in a new power supply into your budget.

I'd recommend the Radeon HD 5670 which is about the best video card you can get that doesn't require auxiliary power.

A good video card that i can get for £100 Ati or Nvidia ?

i want to play videos (HD ) on a 24 inc samsung monitor and also games ...so any good card that i pick up for this price range £100-£130|||In that price range you should be able to pick up a Radeon HD5750/ 5770, or a gtx250 (Nvidia).

Bear in mind the Nvidia option is technically obsolete, Up to date Nvidia cards are due for release in the next month or two.

Don't forget to check the power requirements, the HD57xx series use a lot LESS power than the HD48xx and the Gtx250

Newegg don't deliver to the UK but it is worth looking at their website for the customer reviews.

try:

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/|||I would recommend you look and see if your current setup would support these cards, but around 100-130, you should get a pretty good Radeon HD 4770, Radeon HD 4850, or Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT. As for your monitor, generally the bigger the monitor, the more onboard RAM you should get.

Whats a good Video card FOR COD4?

Whats a good video card that will run cod4 smoothly,im thinking of making a computer, plz give me some advice on that to|||Call of Duty 4 has a very good engine and doesn't need as a powerful card as people think. A lot of Cards will run it well. I could run it in highest in 7900 GS and it was perfect. I think that an 8800 GT would be a good option because of value for money and performance.

Some thing like this would be good card to go for:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc…

That particular GT has very good reviews and would run COD4 like a dream.

A GTX would also give you good performance and are a lot cheaper than they used to be because of the 9x series. It would also get better fps on newer games such as Crysis and would be a bit more future proof but wouldn't be a substantial amount.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc…

If you want a card that will run COD4, be future proof and have something to show off would be something like a 9800 GTX which have recently dropped in price by quite a bit. I have one and i love it, it runs cool for a new gen card and gets very good fps. (I never drop below 70 on Cod4) I have this one and i would recommend it:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc…

If you want to go for an ATI option then a 3x series would be good for value and performance, the first review on this card is 'great card at a very good price. drivers installed first go and started up COD4 and it looks fantastic. much happiness with this card.' So can't go wrong really :P

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc…

And an option that you could show off would be a 4870 or a 4870x2. Recently people have said that they are better than the Nvidia cards in terms of performance. I would recommend http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc…

For what you want if you are willing to spend a bit more money.

But yeah if all you want to do is run Cod4 and aren't really worried about future proofing your system an 8800GT is perfect.

Good Luck with you build :D

|||ATI 4870X2 > ATI 4870 = Nvidia GTX280 [depends on game, but the 4870 costs much less] > Nvidia GTX260 >ATI 4850 > Nvidia 9800GTX+ > Nvidia 9800/8800GT

(roughly)

The Nvidia 9 series is basically the 8 series renamed. Not much of a performance gap between the two.

If you're trying to save money, get the 8800GT. It'll still last a long time. However, if you're going to spend about $150 on a 8800GT, look at the ATI 4850. After rebates it becomes about that price, and it has much better performance.

Is having Two video cards better then having one really good video card?

I want to build a gaming PC. So i want to know if it would be better for me to buy 1 high end video card or 2 older (not to much older) video cards|||One good video card will do... two or more really only give you bragging rights! Since the second card may only give you 25-35% more than one card, its cheaper and easier to install a single good card that two lesser cards.|||Get just one card. Think of it this way: when you get enough money to get another card, you can put that in.

Two older cards will not last you very long and have only maybe 80% the ability of each card. Older cards have more power usage, so your computer will need a better power source.|||Just get one of the best video cards that you can afford now. If you were to buy 2 older cards, they would be outdated faster and you'd have to buy the better card anyways!|||one good card is best.

At least a Radeon 4670 or the games will run all juddery.|||Only if you don't mind playing at low resolutions/detail levels. Recommendations for a good video card?

Leaning towards the ATI 4850 but any other recommendations?|||You can get an EVGA GeForce GTX 260 for $219 or an EVGA GeForce 9800GTX+ for $175 (after rebate) at Newegg. But if you're leaning toward the ATI card, that's fine, too. The NVIDIA cards are a bit faster, according to some benchmarks, though. Good AGP/PCI video card for my comp?

I live in India. My computer is a P4/3.06 Ghz. I have a poor video card . So I want to upgrade the RAM and buy a new graphic card. My computer has a couple of PCI slots and a AGP 3.0 slot. I have a very good video card but my online games (world of warcraft) run really choppy?

Well, if you have a low amount of RAM or a crappy CPU then you will problems running games. Make sure you have at least 2 GB of RAM (doesn't matter if you have DDR of DDR-2) and have a decent processor (P4 2.8 or better). Also, make sure that you don't have any programs running in the back ground when you try to play WOW. you should have nothing running except an anti-virus and maybe some sound mixer program (for EAX effects or 5.1 or some crap like that.) I have a P4 2.8 single core (socket 478) with 4 GB of RAM and I can play at 1280*1024 with a HD 2600 APG at around 40 FPS.

P.S. your internet connection would not make your video "choppy" all the time. It may cause it to "chop" every now and the but even with a high ping ( which is bad) you can still get smooth video. I actually played WOW on a satellite based broadband that kept my ping over 1500ms and it was playable and smooth. it just took a sec and a half to do something when I press a button.|||It depends on your internet connection and the computer it self. I mean I have a friend who plays World of warcraft on a mac and the computer runs fast. How old is your computer. If it runs choppy than get it checked by a computer docter or go get a new computer get a mac its so quick you can`t effin blink!|||For WoW, it doesn't matter really on your graphics card. WoW eats more of your physical memory and processor speed (CPU/RAM bound). The question is how big is your RAM and is it at least DDR2 and what's your processor? If it's choppy, then consider upgrading either your RAM or processor (get at least Cor 2 Duo 2.53 GHz, those are fairly cheap on the market these days).|||Turn off your virus and antispyware while playing. Also cut down the amount the programs running in the background.

Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

5. Click OK.

If you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

http://www.delete-computer-history.com/w…

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.

2. Click Run

3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

6. Click "OK"

Hope this helps!

How important is to have a good RAM, Processor and Good video in a LAPTOP!!?

The more RAM i've the fastest run?

What does really mean a processor in a laptop?

What if I've a good a RAM and Processor... BUT I don't have a good video card?

What's gonnna happen?

How important is the video card?|||Depends what you're doing.

Each of those 3 will improve performance. But they impact different pieces: reading data, number crunching, and graphics. If you have an application (or several applications) that need a lot of data, like giant spreadsheets, or you're running lots of programs at once, you need lots of RAM to make it go fast. If you have a giant spreadsheet taking up all your RAM, you could have the fastest video card and processor in the world and the computer would still go slow.

If you have things that are calculation-intensive, such as large amounts of number crunching, you're computer will be CPU-bound (a faster CPU will improve it). But if the CPU is the bottleneck, adding more RAM and a better graphics card won't help.

A graphics card deals with everything to do with graphics, not just displaying videos. Modern graphics cards are used for editing images in programs like Photoshop for instance. If you're not going to be doing graphics-intensive programs, you don't need a good graphics card. But if you plan on playing games, you could have 10GB of RAM and a top-of-the-line processor, if you have a terrible graphics card, you're going to have a low framerate. Any modern graphics card will work for watching videos, but you need better ones if you want to play games.|||it depends

how important is speed to you?

if you're not playing games on your laptop, the video card wont really matter|||It all depends on what you intend to use the laptop for. I mean, you can buy a $230 Emachines netbook that has cheap Ram, a slow processor, and a video card that is able to display things on the screen.. and it will work just fine for surfing the internet... which is what that netbook was built for.

The processor is the brain of the computer. The CPU. Central Processing Unit. It is the main chip that does all the work. All the computing, as it were.

What if you have good Ram and Processor but you don't have a good video card? Big deal. You didn't say what you wanted to do with it. If all you wanted to do was surf the net and watch movies on Youtube, you are fine.

The Video card is very important, in that the computer won't display anything without one. How good it is, ONE MORE TIME... depends on what you want to use the laptop for.

end of line|||If you are not going to play games then you don't need a video card and 1GB of RAM will be ok. The processor doesn't really matter unless you do things like video/photo editing on a regular basis. If you are going to play games then go for the fastest video card, most ram and fastest processor you can afford

How do you know a good video card?

bychecking the quality lool.|||A good graphic or video card is made by a good company like gigabyte and make sure its about 512 mb so it has the best game play without lagging any way i have a1gb graphic on my windows xp professional pc.And go to msy they have the cheapest computer parts in Australia seriously.

What would be comparable to this video card setup?

I have 2 Nvidia 7950 GT's in Sli. What would be some good video card setups to upgrade to? Also, would the improvement be drastic or hardly noticeable (ie should i wait for new gens of video cards or not?)

Thanks|||The next gen of card are here. The GTX 260 is going to be $400. The ATI 4870 will be released in 2 days.

Your 7950gt's would be the equivalent of an 8800gt probably. You'd need to get an 8800gtx, 9800gtx, 9800gx2, gtx 260, or gtx 280, or 4870, for it to be a drastic upgrade.

The 9800gtx is only $199 right now. A really good buy. If you sli two of those, it would blow your system out of the water.

http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.ht…

skim through that link. Those are the new Nvidia cards. See how your card stacks up.|||Hey dude. If you are on a budget I might tell you to hold off a bit till the 8800 gets a little lower in price but otherwise you could go with 2 8500 gts they got lots of memory and would be sweet together or if you want ot max it out go with 2x 8800 gts but overall I think you are in good shape right now. I know a lot of people are going to be telling you to max it out but if that were me I would wait. In a few months the graphics card will drop in price and you will be buying the same card but for sometimes 1/4 less than it is right now.|||If you upgrade to two 8800GTs, you will smoke nearly every other video card setup right now(except for nVidias new line [GeForce 200 series) that came out a few days ago). All for about $300. If you wait a little while, the price is sure to drop a little. The 8800 I bought 3 months ago costs $100 more than they do now.

The performance will be great, and the new Generations also support DX10 which the 7950 GT does not.

p4 3.0 ghz presscott processor, 2gb ram, 500gb hd|||It's the best AGP 8X GPU out there at the moment. Unless you're willing to upgrade your motherboard this is the best choice for you.

You'll probably have to set the in-game graphics to medium but the games will be playable.|||gta iv the 4650 can play that no problem, gears of war not so much,

your cpu on the other hand is nowhere near able to play gta iv, needs at least core 2 duo if you dont want lag, your pentium 4 on the other hand will be barely enough for the gears of war.

either way both games with that setup is lacking

What's a good video card for $120?

Hi, i need a decent video card that will play Games like WoW, warcraft 3 frozen throne, battlefield 2, Need For Speed Most wanted. with nice graphics and solid performance.

I also wanna add that i have a 300 Watt Power Supply, with Pci-Express x16 built in my cpu.

So what card suits me within this price range?|||XFX GeForce 7600GT (PCI Express-16) works great on my Shuttle XPC (SN25P). Product code is PV-T73G-UGD3.

Runs without extra power connector to the video card. And very good frame rates for $110, after mail-in rebate.|||innovision GF 7300 GT 256Mb PCIE for about $125 l|||Here You can get a Geforce 7600 fpr $100-$130 bucks..

I think this one is good....oh and its 512MB preety cool|||(This is all based on the idea of an up-to-date average computer set-up of 2 drives, 1 HDD, 1 video card, 2 PCI filled, 2 USB filled, 1 rear casefan, and 2.1 speakers. Also included in this assumption of power requirements is a 2.6Ghz Pentium 4 processor and 1Gb RAM.)

I can't give you a solid recommendation, as it depends on whether you're shopping online or not, and if you have a particular preference towards brands. However, I do wish to note that a 300 watt power supply will most likely cause problems with a Nvidia / GeForce card, as they often have a large power draw when idle (but lower recommend specs?). For the lower power draw, as well as stability, I would recommend an ATI Radeon card. Even so, pretty much all current gen video cards want you to have at least a 500 watt power supply for stability purposes as they use a large amount of power when under load (such as playing games). 400 watt is usually fine as long as you don't have many extra cards or drives, but at 300 you'll need to pretty much be running at the bare minimum of other parts.

My quick rundown

GeForce: Usually Higher power draw when idle, Better graphics (more pixel piplines), less stability.

Radeon: Usually lower power draw when idle, can exceed GeForce power draw when under load, Mediocre graphics but alot of extra options for rendering (most aren't used in current games), more stability. Usually runs cooler too, depending on model. Some run alot hotter.

Important things for good graphics: Pixel pipelines, processor, RAM and generation of card.

A few possibilities, when ignoring the power problem:

Nvidia 7600GS

Radeon X1650 Pro

Nvidia 7300GT

GECUBE Radeon X1600PRO (Personal favorite of the 4)

What is the best video card for gaming?

I want to be able to play Crysis maxed up, and any game i ever will play maxed. What would be a good video card? I am considering the ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 X2 but i need more imput and that card is 450 dollars.|||If you want the best, I mean THE BEST, I would reccomend the Nvidia GTX 295. It's street price is 500 bucks, but still, you can play Crysis at around 290 fps.

But if you don't have 500 bucks, you can get similar performance buy hooking up several Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ in triple SLI (if you have many PCI-e ports).

Overall, I'd say that Nvidia produces hardcore gaming video cards, and that ATI produces multimedia cards. Based on my conclusion, you will probably need a Nvidia.|||how many gigs dose the video card have and I will go for hd one|||Nvidia is good and cheaper.

Which would be a good video card for these PC's?

Our office has two identical computers, Lenovo M55 I believe the model is. They each have a Pentium D 3.4Ghz processor, 800Mhz FSB, and have been upgraded to 2GB of RAM. We deal with moderate video editing at our office (Pinnacle Studio editing, burning to DVD, converting to standard formats, etc.) and we are looking for a good graphics card we can install into each machine to improve performance. Right now we are using the integrated onboard graphics, and I know just about anything we can find would be better than that. Our budget is around $140 per video card, but any money we could save would be appreciated.

I know some cards would provide a lot of extra power, but I am not sure which ones would be in excess of what our systems can handle. They both use PCI-Express slots. Any tips as to what to look for in a graphics card and the pros and cons of different models would really be helpful. Thanks.|||Hate to break it to you, but a new video card isn't going to do much. Pinnacle Studio isn't written to leverage the power of the video card. Only a few video editing/postprocessing programs, like Adobe After Effects, have this capability.

The Pentium D is what's holding you back. It's basically just two Pentium 4s slapped on a die. It wasn't even a real dual core. If you want better performance, then the best thing you can do is simply replace those machines outright. You don't have to get anything expensive. Custom build some $500 boxes and they'll easily outrun those Pentium Ds.

Whats a good video card to buy?

im building a new computer from newegg currently. im having a hard time deciding on what video card to buy. my price range is $100-$200, preferably as low as possible.

i just want a video card that can play any of the games out right now and future games. and i dont care if the grapgics are the BEST, just as long as i can play the game at HIgh or something.

any help would be appreciated, thanks|||The best graphics cards that fit ur budget right now are both the ati 4870 and the gtx 260. Both these card are great cards for the money with a slight edge to the 4870 for delivering both video and audio through the DVI to HDMI adapter. But if ur aren't into video playback both cards are fair game.

However with ATI's new line of GPUs coming u may want to hold, because with the launch of the GPUs both ATI and Nvidia cards will inevitably lower in price, and u possibly by a higher end card.|||At this point, you should just hold out until the end of September as ATI's new Radeon 5xxx series will be released. These cards are touted as being 1.6x faster than current gen ATI cards (this means they will be substantially faster than Nvidia's current gen as well).

It makes no sense at all to buy an older GPU with new parts right around the corner. At the very least you should wait until they are released even if you want an older GPU because Nvidia will have to adjust their current gen prices to remain competitive. I'm sure ATI will cut prices on their 4xxx series as well.

You will regret buying a GPU now only to have the price drop by $50 or more week or two later.|||Here is a great card at the top of your price point. I have this card currently and I can play any game out there at max settings with no problems.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

I highly recommend this card as I have seen how it can perform.|||Well based on what you just told me you should be looking into the high 300 dollar range for that. So my advice would be to get the best 200 dollar card I could find.

The 270-300w power supply won't handle mid, and high-end video cards. Check power requirements before buying one! So your choice right now are low-end cards which aren't dramatically faster than the built-in one. Also, the PCI express slot is 8x instead of 16x.

I think it's more cost effective getting a Xbox360 (wait until 2008 after they redo the chipset), or a PS3 if they significantly lower the price. Many PC games will eventually be available on the 360.|||Well I'd suggest ATi because nVidia drivers aren't fully compatible with Vista yet. Do you think geforce 6800 gt is a good video card?

I got this for $125 for games like F.E.A.R. and Doom 3, do you think it can run these games?|||F.E.A.R. might be a little slow on this card at maximum settings, however, DOOM 3 runs quite well on this card. $125 is a little pricey for the card. Check the newegg.com link I have provided for a list of 6800XT cards. All of this are good for mild to moderate gaming. If you are going to do hardcore gaming I would recommend going to a nVidia 7000 series card as some games require this as the base card.

i do a lot of hd video rendering and i am wondering what is a good card?

i am planning on getting the HD 5770 and maybe crossfire it when i get more money

but is that the best thing to do?|||For video rendering in 3D design programs like Maya and Blender, the specialized workstation cards (ATI FirePro & FireGL, Nvidia Quadro FX) are far superior to consumer gaming cards. However they are ridiculously pricey. For a general-purpose card covering everything from rendering to first-person-shooters, the 5770 is an excellent choice.

And yes, plenty of RAM and good CPU are very helpful.

*** Update ***

Oh, ok you're all set. Even a Radeon 4550 can handle HD video just fine.|||That should be good enough, crossfire wont be necessary unless you do some gaming along with video rendering.|||5770 is a good card for HD rendering of any sort, especially the 1GB versions. It'll also provide DX11 support which is great for gaming and stuff in the near future (if your into that =D)

You may also look at a 5450 if your on a tight budget, still has your DX11 support and reasonable performance, but is a fair bit cheaper and probably better for SLi - eg two cheaper cards allows you more money to spend on other components.

Also, consider filling your DIMM sockets with as much RAM as your motherboard can handle, particularly if you have a quad core CPU because rendering will happily take all the resources you can throw at it|||http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Is a 512mb EVGA 9600GT video card for $55 a smart buy?|||It's a good buy for $55, but don't expect it to max out crysis or far cry 2.|||For $55 yes that's a smart buy but that sounds suspiciously like an open box product.

Poster above what the hell are you talking about? A 9600 GT will totally play those games, its only one generation removed from the current series. At what quality is another question but it will play those games.|||Are you planning on playing highend Direct X games like crysis, far cry 2 and fall out 3? If yes then I'd say no, you graphics card is the MOST IMPORTANT part of your gaming system, you don't want to bottle neck the freed up ram and powerful quad core with a cheaper graphics card. spen the $140 and get a 9800GTX+ it is a little more expensive, but it does come with a free copy of call of duty, so that helps right?

What is a good video card for Cod 5?

Hi,

I'm just wondering, what would be a good video card for Call of Duty 5. I'm not an expert so i'm posting this for help. I'd also appreciate it if you could send a link. |||I'd say a g force 9600 gt for like 90 bucks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gCQXjWwM…|||It depends on how much you want to spend, and the rest of your system. Two good choices for under 200 dollars would be the nvidia 8800GTS with the g92 core

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

and the ATI 4850

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If the rest of your system is up to par, either of these two video cards should be good.|||COD 5 is using COD 4 engine I say you use that as basis, 8800 GS is suffice to run well.

Will a better Video card speed up your cpu?

Hi im getting a new video card, im getting a XFX GeForce 8800 GTS and i was wondering will the video card also speed up my cpu? I have 2.0 Ghz of cpu and i know crysis recommends 2.2 although 2.0 will run it

Also what else does the video card speed up Ram?.. ETC? Thanks in advanced|||Yes, it should speed up a bit. If what you replaced was an integrated video card that used system RAM to operate, by adding a card with 512 RAM of it's own, you are allowing the CPU to access more of the system RAM. It's a win-win.|||no, but it would speed up the processes it takes to complete processing graphics faster. |||your graphics will look better, but the overall system performance will not increase, to get faster speed you need to increase the RAM or replace the CPU with a faster cpu, or you could overclock the CPU, if you dont know how to do that DONT you will kill the PC.|||Buying a new video card will not speed up any other components.

However, you will notice an overall improvement in system performance. If you want to upgrade your other hardware, you will have to buy a new processor, buy more RAM etc.....

You may be able to play games on somewhat reduced settings.|||Well thiers always the option of overclocking your CPU but no video card wont speed up up your cpu but it will help produce a better image and takes some of the processor off of your CPU|||All a better video card does is speed up graphical calculations like rendering 3D scenes etc. It wont speed up system RAM or your CPU. In order to speed up your CPU or RAM you would need to do something called overclocking.

P.S. Im jealous about your card. From what I have read its a beast!|||If your current system has integrated video on the motherboard, with shared ram; then you will speed up your system by adding a PCI Express or AGP graphics card. |||No. A better video card will get you a better video card. If you want a better CPU, you need to buy a better CPU. Same with the RAM - the only way to get faster RAM is to buy faster RAM. You can overclock your PC to squeeze some extra performance out of what you already have, but you'll want to do a LOT of research online before even trying this. Otherwise you're likely to damage your computer.

In any case, 2.0 GHz is pretty weak for a gaming machine, so you'll definitely want to upgrade to a 2.8 GHz or better dual- or quad-core processor. If you have a store-bought PC and haven't replaced the power supply, you'll want to get at least a 650 or 700W one. Your current one is probably no more than 350 or 400W, which isn't going to be enough for your video card. Something like this should work: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…|||Ummm, actually the video card does not speed up anything, especially your cpu.

The most It might do is take a little bit off of the cpu, so it can do it's thing and It'll give you more frames on your games.

Which is basically how your going to be able to play at higher graphic settings.... but in anything else, its not going to do anything outside of gaming unless your into video editing and etc....

And the ram thing also, It might technically give you back some of your ram if you were using an on board video card before.... but still again, Its taking that process off of your ram, so it can do its thing too.

Hoped this helped.

|||Certainly yes good vga card do increase the whole performance of you PC

Is nvidia GeForce 9400 GT 1GB DDR2 a good video card?|||good for HD movies. alright for gaming. mine can play cod4 at 30 fps on highest settings without AA on.|||Okay lets keep things simple. It's an alright card and it will play games. Maybe not at the highest settings but it'll do alright. You can get the card at 1GB if you want, but basically what the 1GB means is that it will perform well on huge monitors. If you dont have too big of a monitor get one lower then 1GB. If your monitor is like 1920x1080 then get that one. If you just want that one because it's 1GB go for it.|||its a very good vga your windows graphics may 4.3 and gaming graphics will get around 6.0

it not good for gaming you can play games like cod4 burnout paradise in high settings but you wont be able to play games like nfs shift crysis etc...

i suggest you go for 512mb one because it is more than enough for regular Resolution you8 wont be needing to buy a extra power supply too so you will be saving a lot of money|||Good for regular use, bad for gaming.

The GeForce 9500GT is bottom-of-the-barrel for demanding games, and the 9400GT is half the speed. Go for a GeForce 9600GT or Radeon 4670 as your minimum.|||It's not by any means a gaming card. It's meant for the HTPC / casual gaming crowd who only needs it for basic things like playing videos at high def, and casual games like Sims etc.

Is this a good video card to get for my PC?

Is this a good video card to get for my desktop PC: XFX Radeon HD 4670 Video Card 1 GB GDDR2, PCI Express 2.0. I plan to watch movies and play games, but not hardcore though. It's cheap, under $100, which is what i am looking for.|||That's a good card. DDR2 is fine for basic gaming.

I've never had a problem with Radeon cards.|||Yea it seems good enough|||It's okay for some game and videos. but rather get a ddr3

2GB video card - Is it good?

I recently heard that the guy who fixes my computer was going to install me a "2GB video card". Now, I really don't know much about video cards.

Is a 2GB video card a good video card for gaming? Thanks in advance.|||Hmm, considering 1GB video cards just started coming out, I'd say he was BS'ing you. And I am beign serious when I say that. Find out from him the exact model of video card, as he has sold you something that will not live up to the line he fed you.

In any case, currently anything over 512Meg on a video card is overkill unless you are running a seriously large display, over 30 inches.|||Thera are many factors that determine a graphics card's overall performance. The amount of RAM....is your case 2GB is one of those factors. That being said....2GB is a LARGE amount of RAM for a video card. Check out the ATI HD4870 X2. These are very high-performance graphics cards.|||the ram on a graphics card isnt really important above 512MB unless you are running a game at really high resolutions. 2GB in my opinion is overkill. i would be more interested in what actual card he is putting in.|||2gb ??? i highly doubt hes putting a $400 part in your computer

2gb is very high end for video its up there with the most expensive and close to the top of the charts as the biggest cards.

NVIDIA GTX 560 li? Is it a pretty good video card?

Will the GTX 560 li be able to run my PC games ( Grand Theft Auto IV, Sims 3 and Sim City Societies ) on high to very high graphic settings? Also, if you know, would it be cheaper to buy such a card online rather than a computer products store?

Thanks in advance!|||Newegg.com for best prices and quick shipping (my parts get here in 3 days with cheapest shipping). The 560 is a great card with lots of power, and yes will play on high settings. It's a double thick card so make sure you have enough room on your mobo. Also, do you have at least 550w power supply? I just looked at Newegg and it is about $260 there. I have bought from newegg for over 6 years and I won't buy anywhere else, they are that good.|||yup that's one powerful card

for me its better to buy from a store as its easier to claim warranties, etc.

What's a good video card for HP home computers?

I'm hoping to update my computer's hardware. my first priority is the video card. I have an HP a610e. I am a gamer, and want a video card that is at least fairly powerful (for today's standards) and has plenty of memory. can you please give me some recommendations? just names is ok, but i would like to get specs and prices of any cards you suggest, so i don't have to go find them. best answer will go to the one who gives approximately 5 card recommendations and the most info about them. And please make sure they're compatible with my computer.

Thanks|||your hp a610e has a 300w power supply. that will be the limiting factor in selecting a video card. if you're really serious about gaming you should upgrade your power supply to at least a 500w unit, then you can power a decent gaming card. otherwise you're just throwing away your money on something that will tank your whole system and catch your house on fire.

Overall what's a good video card?

So I ask some question about NVIDIA® GeForce® 8500GT most if not all were negative saying that it's the same as 7 series

is NVIDIA® GeForce® 8500GT a DECENT card to plat games at all or at least run Photoshop fast?

Or will it be best to wait until the 8800 drops a few bucks or just buy a ATI 24000 series?

Last question what's a good 8800 maker since Nvidia just makes the GPUs|||a well rounded graphics cards is going to be a 8800gt, 8800gts, 9600gt, 9800gtx, HD 3850, HD 3870.

Anything less jest stay with your console if you want to enter the PC desktop gaming segment dont come in with anything less than what i stated.

Update: you could consider this a good graphics set up take 2 8600gts and SLI them thats a decent set up. the downfall is that the power of the two can easly eclipsed by 2 8800gt

Now i know you didnt want it but a Crysis level computer is going to have SLI/Tri SLI/Quad SLI/Crossfire/CrossfireX of the cards i listed above so if you get one and want to play Crysis then it would be easer to upgrade by dropping a new one in to get that extra power you need.|||you can get a nvidia 8600gt or a ati 2900xt. photoshop is not a video card program. photoshop uses the system cpu and memory.

Good video card for HTPC streaming large .MKV files?

Started putting together a HTPC rig and while I am able to stream most files without issue from my Server, once I start playing large .mkv files which are blu ray quality, usually the movie will play only for a few seconds but then will ultimately crash VLC, or XBMC.

Here is my setup:

OS: Ubuntu 10.04

Processor: AMD 1055T 2.8 GHz (6 core)

RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1333

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P

Onboard Video: Radeon 3000

Video Player being used - VLC and XBMC

Ive installed the proprietary ATI drivers and for the few seconds the large (8GB+) look great when they play. I don't think the processor or RAM is the issue as the are more then enough for a HTPC rig.

From what Ive been reading on the net, nvidia is the best when it come to linux and I dont mind getting a new card, but would like to know from others out there what nvidia card I should get as I dont want to overspend for performance that wont be used, since I wont be doing any gaming, just streaming movies, internet, news websites.

Is it possible to upgrade the video card in a mac book pro?

I just got a mac book pro for school but i also want to be able to play really good games like the witcher 2. Is it possible to upgrade the video card to a better one? If so where can i find a better video card?|||You dont upgrade macs

You dont upgrade laptops or netbooks

Double Whammy.|||Laptop computers are popular with people of all computing habits, from casual users to hardcore gamers. As more media applications such as games and movies are used by laptop owners, many people feel the need to have the video card in their laptop upgraded so that they can run the latest media and games. If you have a laptop and want to upgrade the video card, you may be able to do so.

1

Contact your laptop manufacturer to determine if laptop's video card can be upgraded. Unless you purchase a high-end or gaming laptop, the video card is usually not upgradable because it is integrated directly into the motherboard of the computer. Higher-end and gaming laptops have discrete video cards that can oftentimes be upgraded if the laptop manufacturer chose to produce an upgraded model of the video card. If the laptop is unable to have its video card upgraded, you'll have to buy a new laptop to get an upgraded video card.

2

Purchase an upgraded video card directly from the manufacturer. Laptop video cards are specially designed and made by the laptop manufacturers and are generally available only from the manufacturers themselves. You may be able to find them on auction sites or from third-party dealers, but to ensure that the card works properly with your laptop model, you should go through your computer manufacturer.

3

Find out if the card is user-serviceable or not. If it is, you will be sent the part and can install it yourself by taking apart the laptop computer, removing the old video card and putting the new one in. If not, then you may have to pay an additional fee to have the laptop manufacturer send a technician to install the video card for you.|||You can't really change anything on a Mac, even the battery. And my advice about the gaming, get an xbox. Macs are not gaming computers, they just don't work well with the games that actually come out for Mac os.|||Video cards cannot be upgraded on any notebook. Both Pc and Mac. They are all soldered down. Even the so called dedicated one's are not upgradeable.

Can i upgrade my computer with a better video card for flight simulatiom games?

Hey, i have a Dell optiflex GX260 and i am wondering is it possible to upgrade the video card? If yes please give suggestions. Thanks!|||Hi,

The majority of GX260 were shipped with an onboard Intel 845G based graphics card. If you want to upgrade from that, you are looking at an old AGP card. To be honest it will just depend on what you can get hold of but something like an ATI X1950 Pro or Gefoce 7800 GS is probably not going to be too far wrong. (The X1950 Pro is the better card, but the 7800 maybe easier to acquire.)

Thank you.|||That computer is outdated. The Max amount of RAM possible to be installed is 1GB which is very low by todays standards. It also has a very weak CPU. The fastest CPU that can be in there is a 2.0GHz one. Very slow by todays standards. I would recommend buying a whole new computer. It doesn't have to be BRAND new, but newer than the one you have. I would search eBay for a used or refurbished computer that has at least: 2.2GHz Dual core (or better), 2GB RAM (preferably better), a nice big HDD suited for your use, and a graphics card with at least 512MB of VIDEO memory. I'd recommend a Radeon HD 4650 if you have a computer with a PCIe x16 slot or a Radeon HD 4650 AGP if you have an AGP slot. If you have any more questions I'd sign up for the site "AfterDawn". It's free and it's a forum! So you can keep talking back and forth with the people!

Is this a good Video Card?

1. Is ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB a good video card for playing games such as Spore and The Sims 3?

Also Runescape ^^.

2. I was also looking at this cheaper alternative: Integrated ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics.

Would that one work as well?

3. Is the first one worth paying $60 more?|||hd 3200 is alot weaker because its not a dedicated graphics card however it will play those 3 games u mentioned, runescape can play very well but spore and sims 3 u will have to play on low settings.

with the hd4350 you can play all 3 on very good settings plus it doesnt share your computers ram like the hd 3200 does since its dedicated, so id suggest get the 4350|||The card is Fair at best, it wont be suitable for spore or sims 3 on decent settings, especially on vista.

but jeez Runescape can be run by a potato!! :P

a good card to get would simply be an 9600gt, or if you can spare, a 9800gt, which would play all these games very smoothly, yes its more expensive...

but to truly experience a game like the creator desired, its best to play with good settings|||It's a pretty poor card in terms of gaming. It depends on what your native resolution is on your monitor.

Whats a good video card under 100 to play TF2 on (its the only game i play on my PC)?

I'm not sure what you mean by "under 100", but I'll assume it's dollars, if not, then sorry.

The GTS 450 has been known as the best budget gaming graphics card by Nvidia.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

However, I will warn you that with a good graphics card, you may need to upgrade your power supply and other components so that you don't bottleneck your computer (where you have 1 good component that can't function as well due to other bad components)

Hope I helped,

-James|||You need to check your power supply before you buy a card. If you have a 250w power supply then I would recommend an AMD Radeon 6450. This card will play TF2. In general... the 6450 isn't a very good card but it's the best you will do if you have a low-wattage power supply.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

A 300w power supply will give you more flexibility. You can look at cards like the 5570, 5670 or 6670. I would recommend a 6570 but the price of that card is too high for the performance you get out of it. The 6570 is not worth more than $60. The 5570 will flat out run circles around the 6450. The 5670 is pretty good and obviously the 6670 is the best in the entire lot. The 6670 is the best choice since it can play a game like Battlefield 3 at low resolutions.

I would have recommend a Nvidia card but Nvidia's budget cards seriously underperform compared to AMD's budget cards. The GT 440 uses more power than a 6670 but it has the same performance as a 6570. The 5670 has an edge over the GT 440.|||Well it really depends on the resolution that you play at. A GT 240 should do the job just fine at most resolutions, even at 1920x1080 it should do pretty good. It may even get 60FPS if you update the drivers from http://nvidia.com/

It also only uses 40W of power, so you shouldn't have to upgrade the power supply.

Here is where to buy in the US: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If you want a guarantee on how much more your power supply can handle, we'll need to know the amperage on the 12v rail of the power supply (usually labeled on the PSU) as well as your full system specs.|||Radeon HD 6670, its real nice and you can get some good deals on Newegg.

Additional Details- This is a good choice because it can still play newer games if you ever decide to start playing those|||I had the Geforce nvidia 9800GT for the longest time. Worked great for TF2 and even some higher end games.

I have the GTX 550ti now, which is only $150.

That's what I had, and I had great performance with it, especially most Valve games.

What kind of games can this video card handle?

Hello, Im planning to buy a laptop but the only upgrade I can do is

ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3470 with HDMI™ Output

I am not sure if that is a good video card or not.

Anyone know if that is good and what type of games can it support?

ex:can it support Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne (on high settings)? World of Warcraft? CoD4?

Thanks for the help!|||http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-charts-q3-2008/Sum-of-FPS-Benchmarks-Totals,795.html

Need A Good Video Card For WoW Cata? Recommendations Plz!?

I Just bought a brand new machine today here are the specs:

Dell XPS7100-3011NBK Dekstop PC

AMD Phenom II 1035T Six Core Processor

8GB Memory

1TB Hard Drive

ATI HD5450 1GG

Win 7 HP

I raid hardcore currently and my old computer went out so I bought this new one today. I installed wow updated the video drivers and at a Good setting (not High or Ultra) I dont get over 20FPS In Stormwind and Max I top out in Heroics is 22 FPS! Makes no sense why my FPS is so low. Do I need to buy a new graphics card? If so what would you recommend I want to run 60 FPS at Ultra Settings! My Limit is 200$ Dollars!|||460 like aboce or radeons 6850 will both doo the job well|||I have a 460GTX which is great and is in your budget at Newegg.com. I like the MSI brand as it has a good cooling setup. You can run high fps with it.

Is this a good video card?

For my computer i have a bad video card but everything else is good so i went to best buy and looked at the video card yesterday they didnt have any nvidia in stock so i looked at the ATI and i found one it was the "ATI HD 5670 1GB GDDR5"|||It depends upon quite a few things before you deem a graphic card good or bad.

The HD 5670 is an average card. It can handle games at low resolutions and medium to high settings.

Any video card out there can handle HD Movies.

If you're into gaming, then I would recommend HD 5770 or higher. If you're an nVidia fan then nothing less than a GTX 460.|||That's a good decent gaming card which is a little slower than the 9800gt....It will play games like MW2 and BFBC2 on high settings....Not ultra high, but high......With a resolution somewhere around 1400x900.....

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gefo…

Benchmarks in Crisis----It does well for a card costing less than 100.00 bux,has DX11 and Eyefinity....

It will hold you over for some time to come........

What is a good Video Card for a laptop?

A cheap one too one that is under 100$.|||The NVida 9600, but you can not replace the lap top video or graphics card chip set it is made into the mother board.

Would be cheaper to buy a new lap top for gaming, look at these:

What is a good video card for high end PC games?

I don't need anything fancy and i'm not looking to spend much. I'm looking for a nVidia GeForce. I have found a few so far.

MSI N9500GT-MD1G-OC/D2 GeForce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP

--

MSI N9400GT-MD1G GeForce 9400 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP

The motherboard I have is a nForce6M-A. I have 4g of ddr2 ram with a 3.2ghz dual core processor.

Are these good video card to get or are there better?|||The 9500GT and 9400GT are low end cards. You'll want an 8800GT/9800GT (75-100$) at the very least. You could also go with 9800GTX+/GTS 250 (125-150$) or GTX 260 (175-200$). The best of the best is the GTX 295 at over 500$.|||I think the obvious answer is whatever your money can buy. In this case the GT9500, but I believe there are better ones now.|||I believe you should save up and buy a 8800GTX+.

If U want a better card get the Geforce GTX 260 core 216 or higher.|||look for 1 gig anything with 2.0 x 16 will be new and better umm you might wana look for ddr3 it will br nicer and go for an EVGE anything over or around 200 bucks on newegg.com

Anyone know of a really good video card for around $100?

My 8600Gt 1gb blew out last week and I need a new card. Its for gaming but i'm a low end gamer with a monitor that maxes out at 1440 x 900 resolution. I am sort of waiting for the GTx 460 to be sold on ebay used but its starting to seem that won't happen at my price range. Anyone know of any other cards?|||I just picked up a Radeon 6770 HD with 1 gig of DDR5 for $100. It's probably the best card out there at that price.

Good video card for my computer?

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/service/Dr…

It uses a 8x AGP slot. One of the best agp cards is the x1950 Pro.

What's a good video card to play games (such as Sims 2 and 3) with?

Currently I have an ATI Radeon x1200. Is that any good? To play Sims 3 I know you need at least 128 MB for your video card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0

Can anyone clue me in on if mine is good enough? If not, can I upgrade? If I upgrade, what should I get? Thanks!|||The ATI Radeon X1200 is a low end graphics card not really suitable for gaming but it is playable on Sims 3. Its performance is slightly above the Intel GMAX3100 but below the Intel GMA4500. Expect to play it a low settings. Sims 2 runs fine.

Video cards on laptops cannot be upgraded as they are integrated to the motherboard. You are stuck with the graphics capabilities that come with the laptop.

The only way is to play Sims 3 on a laptop or desktop with better graphics capabilities.

What's a good video card for the money?

I just sent back a Radeon 1050 that was a piece of junk to replace it with an Invidia ge7600 card that now I'm told is defective.

What's a good video card that doesn't require an arm and a leg?|||depends i prefer nvidias so i would go for them(great cards+ support) AND i would recommend the 8600GT for only £80.

Good Luck!|||The 7600GT is a very good card so there is not much point from upgrading(to the 8600GT) unless your going for the 8800gts or gtx which really do cost an arm and leg!!

|||if u whant it for multimedia check the new ati cards like hd2600 or nvidia8600

games

atix2900xt nvidia 7900gt or gtx

high end but expensive

hd2900xt or nvidia 8800|||a gforce 8600gt will do a good job and won't empty your pockets|||The bare minimum for todays graphics intensive programs would be a NVidia based 8800GTS........

How do I change my integrated video card?

I have a acer aspire 5100 laptop and want to get a better video card but mine is integrated and I only have a pc slot type II open. Is it possible to get a better video card in here? and if so, how?|||Nope.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is nothing you can do about the video adapter that is currently installed on the machine.

90% of laptops cannot have their video adapters upgraded.

The 10% that can are the large, desktop replacement laptops that usually run upwards of $2000us.|||Since it is a laptop your only option is to use your pc slot. However i have never seen a pcmcia vido card. The only thing I have ever seen that is close is a tv tuner card, which isn't a viseo card.|||Just buy a new laptop for your desire great video graphics.|||you will need to replace the whole motherboard if you replace the video card because its integrated to the mother.

Is this a good video card for gaming.(not a hardcore gamer)?

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100; 64MB - 251MB dynamically allocated video memory (shared)

with 2GB of Memory|||Its decent - 2 gig ram helps.. and 250mb of shared video memory is good.

Its not the best card but it should do the job of a non-hardcore gamer. Make sure those video drivers are up to date|||Shared memory graphics are never good for gaming. Hardcore? Definitely not. It depends on what kind of gaming you mean that isn't "hardcore". You could probably run most games that are more than 5 years old with not too much problem. I wouldn't expect too much from it - sorry.

Whatever memory you set aside for graphics, as you know, will take away from your system memory. So this will slow overall performance quite a bit the more you take.

Help me i need a good video card?

i want a video card that could handle playing command and conquer 3 but also cheap my slot is agp and i also need a cheap ram upgrade thank you and my computer is a gateway 816gm|||At least you need a card of 7600GT(256M), with which u can play the c&c3 for nearly 30FPS under the resolution of 1280*1024, AA open and shader detail High.

But I think ATI HD3650 AGP version card is the best choice. The problem is whether u can find the AGP version card, though it's really exist.|||Any decent agp card will run it. recommended requirements is only 32meg vram. You should be able to get something for about $40 from ebay.

How to get better video card for dell inspiron 15R?

Yeah so the intel HD 3000 video card is too weak but they dont have the option to choose a diffrent one but i really want this laptop, can i buy a diffrent video card thats powerfull BUT cheap!!!

And if its even possible to get.. and how to install it... is there a chance it will mess up the laptop.. and just how to do it!? will i void the warranty?

And could the laptop run the video card?|||You cannot upgrade internals such as the graphics or video card. What you buy is what you're stuck with, generally.|||Here's a lappy chart
